DOJ Scrubbed Study Showing Right-Wing Violent Attacks Outpace All Other Extremism
As MAGA world rages about left-wing violence, the government appears to have removed a research paper showing contrary evidence.
“Militant, nationalistic, white supremacist violent extremism has increased in the United States. In fact, the number of far-right attacks continues to outpace all other types of terrorism and domestic violent extremism.”
These were the opening lines of an academic study that, until earlier today, was published on the National Institute for Justice’s (NIJ) online library. The NIJ describes itself as “the research, evaluation, and technology agency of the U.S. Department of Justice and is dedicated to improving knowledge and understanding of crime and justice issues through science.”
The study, titled “What NIJ Research Tells Us About Domestic Terrorism,” appears to have been yanked sometime in the last 24 hours, its URL now redirects to the NIJ homepage that displays the following message:
[Update - 9/17/25: The above notice has been removed from the NIJ website.]
The original paper, authored by six researchers and published last year, is still available thanks to The Internet Archive at this link. The change was first spotted by sharp-eyed reddit sleuths.
The study’s findings are not surprising to anybody living in the real world:
Since 1990, far-right extremists have committed far more ideologically motivated homicides than far-left or radical Islamist extremists, including 227 events that took more than 520 lives. In this same period, far-left extremists committed 42 ideologically motivated attacks that took 78 lives.
The timing for this apparent censorship could not be more suspect. As members of Congress, MAGA influencers and the president himself have signaled that they’re out for leftist blood, despite not knowing the true motivations of the suspect. I have reached out to the NIJ for comment and will update if I hear back.
Those calls did subside somewhat when it became clear that the leading suspect was a young white man who grew up in a Republican household. For example, before the identity of the leading suspect was known to be a cisgender white male, Rep. Nancy Mace, one of the most odious and forgettable members of Congress, tweeted: “Time to bring back the death penalty.” This was after she gave an interview outside the Capitol where she used a slur for trans people.
Today, after the arrest, she struck a different tone: “We know Charlie Kirk would want us to pray for such an evil, lost individual like Tyler Robinson to find Jesus Christ. We will try to do the same.”
MAGA world wants you to believe that leftists and trans people are dangerous, despite all the evidence, including research papers published on the DOJ’s website, indicating that the extreme end of their camp is FAR more likely to commit ideologically motivated murder.

Actually, the study was available on NIJ’s website on September 11, 2025 at 8 a.m. because I linked to it in a Facebook post and warned my friends they should download it if they were interested in it because it would surely be scrubbed. By September 12, 2025 at 4 p.m. it was gone.
Yikes. Yup. Just tested it out.
